My name is Laura and I live in Salt Lake City. I do talks, tours, monitoring, and habitat augmentation for bees and other beneficial insects. I started the Wild Bee Project in 2015 to share my love of our local bees. The Project has morphed into helping local urban vegetable farmers attract beneficial insects with shrub and grass-based plantings.
I will always come back to the bees. Such engaging creatures. Their absorbed, busy, behavior as they gather pollen is seductive and delightful to watch - check it out! There are about 1,100 species of wild bees in Utah. Wild bees are important pollinators and have always been there, in the 'background,' supporting our food web and keeping our gardens and farms producing year after year. They are also “cute.” Hence the photos.
Please contact me with any questions about bees!
My habitat projects are funded by USDA.
